Hello there South Africa! Let’s celebrate Soccer!
So it begins! The greatest sport event of them all, and it will be happening in South Africa.
For one month the entire world will be watching everything that happens in this country. Dreams, hopes, joy, tears… all the feelings only the beautiful game can inspire. South Africa it’s the capital of the world for one month of soccer celebration.
32 nations will be fighting each one to win the FIFA World Cup Trophy, all the usual favorites, the newcomers and a few surprises down the road will play 64 games in the tournament from June 11 to July 11 in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Porth Elizabeth, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Rustenburg and Pretoria.
The host team will be matched on the first day against Mexico, while France and Uruguay complete the group. My best wishes to both Mexico and South Africa here, although they will be have a couple of though competitors.
In the group B Argentina seems a favorite from the start, but I will root for Nigeria and Korea, while Greece could come as another surprise.
Group C, could pose some treat, but I firmly believe in the US to repeat the surprise they made in last year’s Confederations Cup, and I expect England to join them, although we should keep an eye on Algeria and Slovenia.
Germany apparently will have things easy for them in the Group D, though I will cheer for Australia, and Ghana could repeat its great performance from the last World Cup, and Slovenia should be on the lookout.
Netherlands, Denmark, Japan and Cameroon are in the tough Group. Anyone could qualify, and I like all four teams. I just wish everyone good luck here.
Italy and Paraguay should won the Group F, but Slovakia and New Zealand could manage to break their defenses after all.
Ivory Coast and North Korea could easily be food for Brazil and Portugal, but I hope they’ll do their best, even if they don’t survive the Group Stage.
Spain is favorite by many, as always, but let’s see if they can perform against the strong Chile who played a great qualification in South America, Switzerland and Honduras.
No matter what my favorite teams are, I wish you all good luck and above all, make this event a great and beautifully played World Cup, and whoever wins the trophy truly deserves it.
Thank you South Africa, it’ll be one great month on this planet!
